Br Jerome believes in taking a holistic approach to therapy, treating the whole person within a biopsychosocial spiritual model. He uses evidence-based techniques and works collaboratively with clients to help them achieve their goals. For Christians many of us experience fragmentation and a disconnect between our emotional and spiritual lives. The key to living a full life in Christ in the freedom of the Holy Spirit, is to integrate our emotions and spiritual life as a unified whole, so this is an essential part of Br Jerome's unique therapeutic approach.
Many of us struggle with being overwhlemed by our emotions, patterns of behaviour, or triggers that affect our relationships. Most of the time we try to suppress them or self sooth with unhealthy coping strategies - but this only ignores the issues and so they will continue to affect us consciously and unconsciously.
The Biopsychosocial-spiritual model is a holistic framework for understanding the total wellbeing of each person as a unique whole. Each area and dimension of our life impacts the other areas and forms the basis of our unique lived personhood.
Explore your values, goals, and beliefs to gain insight into your own identity and purpose. Your overall wellbeing is incomplete if it does not include your spiritual health. To be holy is to be truly human and therefore healthy.
"The person who wishes to understand himself thoroughly -
and not just in accordance with immediate, partial, often superficial, and even illusory standards and measures of his being - he must with his unrest, uncertainty and even his weakness and sinfulness, with his life and death, draw near to Christ. He must, so to speak, enter into him with all his own self, he must "appropriate" and assimilate the whole of the reality of the Incarnation and Redemption in order to find himself. If this profound process takes place within him, he then bears fruit not only of adoration of God but also of deep wonder at himself"
- Pope St John Paul II (Redemptor Hominis #10)
"Each of us is the result of a thought of God.
Each of us is willed.
Each of us is loved.
Each of us is necessary"
- Pope Benedict XVI (Inauguration homily)
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Learn how to integrate your spiritual life with your mental health and emotional life. "In Christ human feelings are able to reach their consummation in charity and divine beatitude."
- (CCC #1769)
"We become fully human when we become more than human, when we let God bring us beyond ourselves in order to attain the fullest truth of our being."
- Pope Francis (Evangelium Gaudium)
"...this harmonious integration of our human nature, carried through by personal effort and responsible activity, is destined for a higher state of perfection. United with the life-giving Christ, man's life is newly enhanced; it acquires a transcendent humanism which surpasses its nature and bestows new fullness of life. This is the highest goal of human self-fulfillment."
- Pope St Paul VI (Populorum Progressio #15)
"Unless we can acknowledge our concrete and limited situation, we will not be able to see the real and possible steps that the Lord demands of us at every moment, once we are attracted and empowered by his gift. Grace acts in history; ordinarily it takes hold of us and transforms us progressively. If we reject this historical and progressive reality, we can actually refuse and block grace, even as we extol it by our words."
- Pope Francis (Gaudete et Exsultate #50)
Many people of all ages & genders find themselves stuck, struggling, and feeling alone in the bondage of sexual addicition. This can be through pornography, sexting or in acting out via hookup culture. Resulting in the cycle of guilt, shame, loneliness, isolation, emptiness and starving for intimacy.
But there is hope!
